AmeriNZ 82 – Jake Day

Episode 82 is now available, and it's free no matter where you get it from. You can listen to it or download it through the player at the bottom of the post here, or subscribe for free through iTunes here (you must have the free iTunes player installed). You can also listen to it for free through the player on my MySpace page.

Today is (our puppy) Jake’s first birthday! It’s a day for celebration, and I’m feeling a bit silly, I guess. I kid around a lot, and I deliver one joke totally seriously. Can you spot it? I start out today talking about Australia and New Zealand and the way people form one country don’t like to be confused with people from the other. I even give an expat tip. After that, it’s on to some items from the news that I think are funny. Did you hear about the world’s oldest recording? After that, it’s comments from two episodes.

Leave a comment. Or, you can ring my US listener line on 206-339-8413. Email me (won’t be read on the podcast) at arthur{at)amerinz.com. You can also still use my other address, amerinz[at) yahoo.com.

Clearly I am too old to get the Sesame Street reference.

Thanks for playing the transcription of the earliest known recording. I had read about it and had wondered if they had been able to play it back.
It sounds like may be a precambrian skype style recording; possibly a response to a Craig’s list post for a help wanted add for a longbow man.

Is that a new opening to your podcast? I don't remember that opening.

Happy Birthday to Jake!

Funny wombat story!

Oh my gosh, Arthur! Can you tell I'm taking notes as I listen? When you played that "oldest" recording, I cracked up! That was so funny. I don't expect things like that from you. It surprised me and give me a great laugh!

Your feed issues are a pain in the but. You might just have to start over and submit the new feed to all the different places it's listed. Good luck with that.

Big Fatty: Actually, I shouldn't know it, either. I was referring obliquely to Mr. Snuffleupagus, sort of a big furry elephant like thing that at first only Big Bird could see. He used to say, "Hello, Bird". The only reason I know that is that a friend of mine--my age, mind you--watched "Sesame Street" at the time (we were teenagers at the time).

Frank :I think you're right about the recording, except that I think it was probably an eBay ad for a vintner.

Archerr: The opening is adapted from the one I made up for my anniversary episode. It's sort of temporary, and a way to avoid either the overused Apple Loops, copyright music and podsafe, too. I play all the instruments on the opening (apart from the plane...), which sounds much more impressive than reality--I used a "hunt and peck" method on a keyboard and used GarageBand to make it different.

Jake says thank you.

You may hear the odd bit of fun sometimes, now that I'm in my second year. Glad you enjoyed it.

Happy Birthday to Jake! I so loved the worlds oldest recording. Fantastic...All of your podomatic issues make me wonder if people are having them with my site and I just don't know! Eek.
