Welcome to Summer 2016

Today, December 1, marks the start of Summer—finally! While we’ve had some awesome days in the past couple weeks in particular, for the most part Spring was cool and wet, so it’s about time for some nicer weather. It’s also an opportunity to remind our friends in the Northern Hemisphere that in this part of the world, seasons begin on the first of the month, not three weeks later on the solstice or equinox.

Summer is my favourite season, without a doubt, and I’m especially happy that this year I’ll be able to take full advantage of it. After what must have been a couple years of not feeling 100%, I’m looking forward to being able to take care of a lot of projects around the house.

This morning Facebook greeted me with the graphic above, and invited me to share it. So, I did—and added a bit cheekily:
See?! Even Facebook knows that December 1st is the start of summer here in the Antipodes! 😉  Happy Summer, my fellow Southern Hemispherians! 😀
Summer also provides the perfect opportunity to go on some photo expeditions around the area, for both photos and video, to show a little more of my New Zealand. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, and—weather permitting—I’ll be able to do that this year.

Speaking of video, I made one about seasons at the start of Spring, and I’ll include that at the bottom of the post. It talks about the different way we look at seasons here.

This is also the final month of the year, of course, and there are now only 31 days to meet my annual goal of one blog post per day. As it happens, I began today needing exactly 31 posts—one per day—to meet that goal. I have several posts lined up (including several for today), but I'll also be busy with work for about a week, so the actual number of posts per day will fluctuate, and I could even miss some days. Even so, I'm likely to meet my goal.

Yeah, this summer is shaping up to be a good one already.
