A Frank discussion

We all know the common admonition: “If you can’t say something nice about a person, don’t say anything at all.” So, with that in mind, the rest of this post is absolutely everything nice and positive I can say about "evangelist" Franklin Graham:

Sorry, I couldn't think of a single thing.

This "post" is prompted by yet another round of anti-LGBT hate mongering by Frank. I just couldn't bring myself to say what I REALLY wanted to say by the biggest bully currently in American religion:

"We have allowed the Enemy to come into our churches," Graham said. "I was talking to some Christians and they were talking about how they invited these gay children to come into their home and to come into the church and that they were wanting to influence them. And I thought to myself, they're not going to influence those kids; those kids are going to influence those parent's children."

"What happens is we think we can fight by smiling and being real nice and loving," he continued. "We have to understand who the Enemy is and what he wants to do. He wants to devour our homes. He wants to devour this nation and we have to be so careful who we let our kids hang out with. We have to be so careful who we let into the churches. You have immoral people who get into the churches and it begins to effect the others in the church and it is dangerous."

The other thing that motivated this post is that yesterday Frank posted yet another anti-gay tirade on Facebook:

"The Episcopal Church in the U.S. has just received a major scolding. The worldwide Anglican Communion voted to suspend the entire U.S. Episcopal Church this week because it has embraced same-sex marriage, allowing the election of homosexual priests and allowing same-sex marriages to be performed. They deserve to be called out for this—it is wrong and is against what Almighty God clearly teaches in His Word. I hope this will cause the Episcopal Church here in America to realize the seriousness of the steps they’ve taken contrary to the Bible and cause them to turn back to following what God’s Word tells us."

Frank is completely free to say that it's against what HE thinks his god is for or against, and he's free to say the Episcopal Church was against Frank's personal interpretation of his bible, and he can even say that they're rejecting Frank's interpretation. But his has no right whatsoever to pretend that his interpretation of Christianity is the only one, nor to condemn a church he rejects outright, anyway (radical fundamentalists like Frank believe than Mainline Protestant churches are apostate—to put it in kind terms).

Frank is simply using the (wrongful, in my view) censure of the Episcopal Church for purely political reasons: To raise his standing among the most radical parts of protestant fundamentalism so he can raise more money for whatever it is he wants the money for. He's also using it to further cement his position as American Christianity's biggest anti-gay bigot.

All of which is why it's simply not possible to say anything nice about Frank.

I'm sorry, but, whatever failing Billy Graham had, Franklin is just nowhere near the man his daddy was. So I tune him out.

I agree. After he decided to go full-bigot, I began to wonder if it was because he knew he'd never measure up to his daddy, so he decided to make a name for himself in a completely different direction, something he could succeed at.
