Ultimate spam email (today…)

Like everyone else, I get a lot of spam email. And when I say “a lot”, that means only the (too) many that get past spam filters. Today, I got the best in a long time: There was no appeal to send bank details to some African prince, no come-ons, as it were, from potential Russian brides, there was this:
Dear Ameri,

This is to inform you to appear in the Court on the March 14 for your case hearing.
Please, prepare all the documents relating to the case and bring them to Court on the specified date.

Note: If you do not come, the case will be heard in your absence.

You can find the Court Notice is in the attachment.

Kind regards,
Steven Bacon,
District Clerk.
The email was sent to my podcast email address, but the spammers couldn’t even get the salutation right. Amateurs! I’ve seen much more convincingly real emails from “African princes”.

No, I did not open the attachment, but I did block the sender and mark the email as spam. End of story—until the next pathetically stupid spam email arrives, one that treats me as if I’m too dumb or naïve to not know it’s spam/malicious.

My momma didn’t raise no dumb babies!

But what happens when they take legal action against you. Certainly sending an email will be recognized as proper notification in this legal matter. Sort of like leaving a similar message on say an answering machine.

As a true friend, I will bake you cookies and send them to you when you are in jail.

Heh. Maybe they should take it up with African princes or potential Russian brides…
