I allow anonymous comments so that people who for whatever reason cannot have their names known (despite the fact that anyone can use a nickname) can still take part in the discussions on this blog. As a rule, I don't censor comments. However, I do not permit comments that are slanderous/libelous/defamatory or blatantly racist, sexist or homophobic. I'm unlikely to permit comments that I personally find offensive, though context matters. This is my blog and I make the rules. Others can make whatever rules they want for their own blogs, and they do.

The deleted comment violated one or more of my rules and I have deleted it.

Fair enough. Truth is truth whether either one of us knows what it truly is. That I can live with. Thanks Arthur.

Youre an American so lets change topics for a bit. I saw this when it first came out and thought it was bogus so I checked the DOD /Dept of VA and yep there it was. ( Since been removed but can be found on any number of links and maybe still a few videos.

This is exactly what is happening in so many areas. Certainly this blog of yours is monitored. Hopefully you know that. So when you decide what can and cant go on your blog , I can appreciate that ,
just more of the same though really.

This is from the Department of Veterans Affairs .......

12/13/07 'ICH' -- -- The US department of veteran affairs has issued an official report (See report in full) that confirms 73,000 U.S. troops killed and 1.6 million 'disabled' by Persian Gulf wars. 73,846 U.S. Troops Dead (Page 6) and 1,620,906 permanently disabled ( Page 7)

There is more to this if you haven't seen it already. Your thoughts ?

I have to be particularly careful about statements that could be deemed slanderous/libelous/defamatory because there's very little case law to determine who has jurisdiction (or standing, for that matter) when material is published on a blog. I've decided to use a very conservative interpretation of New Zealand law. Better safe than sorry.

Truth, of course, is another matter, and isn't always clear or obvious. That's the point of discussion—to try and shed some light to make truth easier to see. But there are boundaries, and I think I've made mine a little clearer.

But for any would-be commentors, I read all comments, including the very few that I end up deleting. And I generally don't delete comments (in fact, the only ones I will always delete are spam comments).

I gave a presentation about blogging last week in Chicago, and I got into this mini-debate about "censoring" blogs. Other than spam, I've deleted exactly two posts in three years. One was a scurrilous attack on my friend's looks (I would have left it if were attacking mine), and one was this racist and highly sexualized comment.
I make no apologies for that, and neither should you.
